~SPECIAL EVENT: LENIN LIGHTING!!!~
To inspire a quirky sense of holiday occasion, it's become a tradition in Fremont to crown the Lenin statue with lights and illuminate him like a Christmas tree.  With the help of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce, we'll kick off this event at 5pm on Dec. 2nd with live music by the Fremont Philharmonic OrchestraSanta to greet the kiddos, donated hot beverages from Peet's Coffee and Tea, and sweet and savory goodies from Pie and Mighty-O Donuts!  Our Beginning Day Care is already decorating song sheets for a few Christmas Carol numbers from the crowd, and we'll have a banner for the little ones to decorate while they wait for their chance to play Santa's elves and help the jolly old guy flip the switch on the Christmas lights!  From there, it's on to art walking!
See the Lenin Lighting event webpage for more details.

"Landscapes provide an array of environments and familiar imagery to work with as a
starting point. From here, elements of abstraction, color theory and spontaneity are
merged to form rural and urban scenes that appear to be in constant transition,
taking the viewer from what was to what may be. It is through this idea of continual
movement by which my work suggests that the places we know are always changing,
whether we are ready or not." - T.A. Roberts

Emily Alice Peck’s work is encaustic art, using wax, heat, and pigment.  She tells us that she started developing her technique almost 3 years ago:    “The canvas built of wood, using plaster/fresco base, color oil pastels, acrylic, oil, milk and clay paints.  The lines are etched, and finished with layers of wax.”  For Emily “the hands are connected to the heart".

Eric Rulona is a designer and a philanthropist. As a designer Rulona works with companies to communicate their messages, organize their workflows and transform goals into tangible artifacts. As a philanthropist, Rulona takes the stories of those in need and retells them to those in positions of giving using art, photography and design.  The exhibit on display at The 509 Wine Room showcases photos taken while working with NewDayKids, an organization working in rural Malawi. As a cofounder and program manager at NewDayKids, Rulona was witness to numerous touching stories from a small school in central Malawi and will be sharing some of these images throughout the month of December at the 509 Wine Room.

Born in Japan, Tomoko has lived in Seattle for the past 10 years.  "I’ve been drawing all my life, but I started to paint about 6 or 7 years ago. I’m always attracted to cute, weird, and happy things and draw them with my imagination. I grew up watching Japanese and European cartoons, of course. I love their imagination and beautiful colors and funny stories! I have very heavy influence from cartoons I grew up with. I love when people smile when they see my paintings. That makes me smile and makes me want to paint more!" -Uno

Ryan 'Henry' Ward is a Seattle based artist. Born and raised on a farm in Montana, he later moved to the Pacific Northwest and graduated with a degree in Art, Writing and Storytelling for Children from Fairhaven College in Western Washington.  Since June of 2008, Ryan has completed over 110 murals, and it is this body of work that he has become most famous for.  He wants the natural rawness of the painting process to show through his balanced, bright, and whimsical work.

Lewis' love of quilts and the fabric pieces they're made from, turned into collage once he realized that beautiful traditional quilt block designs could be interpreted using other materials and methods. Instead of an entire quilt, he chooses to focus on the individual block patterns. Despite the classic geometry of the designs Lewis chooses, the random visual energy of the papers he creates bring a new vision to these classic standards. The longer one looks at a block, the more you see in the visual depths of the texture, forms and colors.

Britt Rynearson designs bold, original textiles and clothing in both wall hanging and wearable forms.  Her rich background as a textile artist, modern aesthetic, and training in the Japanese art of Arashi shibori has garnered her work considerable attention; Rynearson has had work exhibited at the Smithsonian and the Philadelphia Museum,  has been featured regularly in national art and craft publications, and her designs are carried by boutiques nationwide.  Influential training came from: a fine art degree from Scripps College, courses at Fuji Studios in Florence, Italy, a live/work experience in a Balinese village to study ikat and silk weaving.  She has taught fine art and surface design courses since 2002, and currently serves part time on the faculty of Gage Academy of Art and Cornish College of Design, among others.

"After a career in the precise left-brain world, I reinvented myself as an abstract watercolor artist whose work is reminiscent of mid-century modern paintings.  Painting is meditative. I paint loosely, play with colors, and let the paints flow together naturally as highlighted in the managed chaos of color and form in my work." - Tervonen
